 Product Description
1.Applying an external current (excitation current) to the rotating rotor via carbon brushes (input current);

2.Conducting static electricity from the shaft to the ground through carbon brushes (grounding brushes) (output current);

3.Changing the direction of the current (in commutator motors, the brushes also serve a commutation function);

4.Connecting the shaft (ground) to protection devices for rotor ground fault protection and measuring the positive and negative voltages of the rotor relative to ground.
A commutator consists of brushes and a commutator ring. Carbon brushes are one type of brush. Due to the rotation of the rotor, the brushes continuously rub against the commutator ring, and during commutation, electrical sparks can cause erosion. Therefore, brushes are wearable components in DC motors. To extend the service life of DC motors, improve operational stability, and reduce noise and electromagnetic interference, brushless DC motors are gradually replacing brushed motors. Generally, AC motors do not use a constant magnetic field, so they do not require a commutator and thus do not need brushes. However, AC motors are usually larger in size.
